Video Studio for Marketing

Taking the better part of inspiration from my Work from Home Set Up, I wanted to share a little bit more about my day job!

If you’re new around here, I’m a marketing manager at a law firm.

I know, this creative little snake is in the corporate world? Yes, a little. I mean, it really matches my pace for work, but I definitely still want to operate my own small business full-time in the next five years.

Anyways, part of my job is to record, edit, and release video content.

That means I invest in products to help me successfully do this part of my job.

My #1 investment is Notion.

Notion is the bread and butter to scheduling, drafting, and planning the actual video script, organizing the props or graphics I need, and streamlining the release for specific channels (Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, etc.).

Outside of that, I do use Notion for just about all of my work operations!

#2 on the list is my iPhone.

Yes, I totally could invest in a video camera, but when the quality doesn’t need to be life-changing, an iPhone works perfectly fine!

Now… what I use with the iPhone is the real game changer!

So, let’s dive into #3 and #4!

#3 is a travel-friendly tripod.

I’ve used this Elitehood Tripod and the biggest downfalls were the flat base legs made it really hard to position the tripod in certain ways AND the phone connection part would only hold the iPhone horizontally, so to record with the external camera I would have to move the phone to the very tip of the holder.

I’ve also used another hand-me-down tripod which I love but it honestly works better for my Canon camera rather than the iPhone. Also, it’s not the most travel-friendly!

So, now we’re at my current tripod. The PhoPik tripod. It hits all my needs.

✓ Travel friendly

✓ Holds phone vertically and horizontally

✓ Nice balance

✓ Room at the base to move around odd corners

Ah. Dreamy. You’ll have to tell me if you love it to on Insta.

#4 SOUND SOUND SOUND.

One thing I noticed in my videos early into recording is that the iPhone was picking up so much noise!

I tried making sure everyone in the office knew I was recording, so keep the noise levels down. But then I ran into the problem of people in the hallway outside of our office making noise. And, God forbid, noise when recording at an event. That audio was so hard to recover!

A nightmare.

So I hopped onto Amazon to buy some Bluetooth microphones. The quality. THE QUALITY. I have never been so pleased with the sound quality before. And you can have two going on at the same time, which makes them perfect for the mini interviews my boss likes doing at events.

The Budget?

Outside of the iPhone, everything totals up to about $50 for equipment and $10/mo for Notion.

Now, if you’re looking to do some heavy hitting video editing, you’re going to want to invest in Adobe (currently it’s about $55/mo at my day job). If you’re doing some light edits here and there, you can definitely use Canva (I think that’s also around $12/mo or so).

So, this is your sign to start. You can record, edit and release your videos in a way that won’t break the bank.

And, when you’re ready to invest in better equipment, you’ll know what your priorities are to make an informed decision on your tech!
